Hey team

I searched the FAQs and the archives but I couldn't find anything that quite touched on this.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to pull the diodes fom a Tubescreamer in order to make it almost clip-less . . . or would this wreak havoc bc the diodes wouldn't be there to perform some signal limiting?

I use my TS primarily for color, and is curious what the best way to clean it up is. Back to back LEDs?

Thanks in advance for all your help

Remove the diodes, remove the resistor in serie with the gain pot (allowing less gain).

bioroids

Using leds instead of both diodes will certainly clean it up. But wouldnt be totally clean anyway. I think the clipping contributes something to the color anyway, as they generate harmonics.

I'm not sure but when I take the diodes of my proco rat clone I just get a huge volume boost without the clipping....so yes, I think taking the diodes out will do what you're thinking about.

I think there was a page somewhere (but the main page is down) about using 2 diodes in series in each direction for less clipping and more gain too.

I'm pretty sure someone will come soon and say what you can exactly do..

I didn't look hard enough. Here's basically my same post.

Anybody got more info? Thanks always.

Yes, you can pull the diodes and even run it off of 18V.
