We need a new stompbox myth...

The skinniest possible wire is best. Any 'extra' copper used will suck tone out of any circuit, that's why famous pedals used skinny wires.

A 'naturally' filthed out board makes it more vintage sounding, but This method takes alot of time for filth to accrue naturally, I have developed a method for attaining 'vintage filth' in a New Circuit that is part of a non-disclosure agreement.

Old jacks sound different than new ones, for your old Fuzz Box, never replace the jack with a new one.
Do you guys want to give Eric Johnson a nervous breakdown?
Two dead batteries sound better in a FF than one live one.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Salvaged components sound way better than new unused ones. This is of course due to the 70s electrons, which were way woolier than the fresh ones of today. They build up over time in transistor junctions and electrolytic dielectrics in what's commonly described as "the mojo barrier". The darker a vintage PC board is, means the components are due for a complete replacement. You have to perodiacally replace the components with new ones, due to "mojo leaching" of the old components. Eventually, the new components will reabsorb the mojo, and the board will turn light green.

...And just how do you know this to be true Mark?

Peter (who already knows the answer (evil laugh-> ))

I don't know how I do this, but invariably when I make a new layout for a circuit that I'm designing it ends up being flipped...    In the process I've made some great sounding stuff with a flipped opamp - which I would not attribute to mounting the IC upside down, but you never know....

Well here's the thing.  Just about EVERY myth has to have a basis in truth, or at least something which is true but misconstrued and grossly exaggerated ater 20th generation retellings.

Of course the reason why both Peter and I know about the flipped-over chips is because we've both made PCBs without first compensating for the flipped image needed for PnP technique.

This has inspired a new(?) abbreviation.

Actually, try different types of caps in parallel to get subtle differences in tone. For example, film with ceramic etc...

Some amps do this.

OMG!!!!

Has this old Pandora's Box been opened again!!! Refer to the Infamous "Funny MOJO" thread that stretched 24+ pages. (Actually, I thought the whole thing was pretty cool :P)

BTW: Mark Hammer...how do you do that with a STRAIGHT face!

Re-issues of effects that have an indicator LED in them, always sound worse than the the original witjout the LED.
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Build boutique pedals with sloping front enclosures - mount the pots with the open end "up" so that the tone doesn't dribble out - then of course you have to ship it at exorbitant cost to the buyer so that they can be assured that the "this way up" sticker on the box has been religiously adhered to. Then, if anyone ever complains about the tone, tell them that they must have let it flip upside down in their bag and all the tone dribbled out of the pots.

Tone liquid can be perchased seperately and comes with explicit restoration instructions.

ooh, how about caps with electrolyte refiller valves?

effects built on stripboard are way more better.

electrons like to travel in straight lines instead of going around curves in regular pcbs.

Make sure to lean the stripboard downhill from input to output to increase electron flow.
