Here's my take on this type of situation:

The circuits at runoffgroove.com are provided free-of-charge and are intended for DIY builders.  We haven't posted any "projects are for non-commercial use" message, so there's no violation if one of those builders decides to sell a pedal built from a 'Groove project.  We've been contacted by some builders who want permission to sell stompboxes containing our projects and we've made licensing/royalty arrangements.  However, there's no legal reason for them to do so.  It comes down to the ethics of each builder.

If we really wanted to prevent this situation, we wouldn't share our projects with the DIY-fx community.  Personally, I'm flattered that someone feels that a runoffgroove.com circuit is good enough to be sold commercially and if they want to give credit (or compensation) to the 'Groove, that's even better.

EDIT: After studying the photos in the eBay listing, I'm not convinced that it actually is a May Queen.  One board photo sports what appears to be a germanium transistor and none of the photos seem to show three transistors.

Well, if it helps the poor sonuvabitch to buy something better than a $20 webcam...... ::)

Thanks you, it sounds REALLY great on tube amps but it hasn't been tested on them yet?

The whole description was VERY disturbing to read. And what really disturbs me, SOMEONE BOUGHT IT.

PS: Why did you think it's a May Queen anyway?

Oh yes, Mr. Tremblay, in case you wondered (I mean, if you still remember, it was a long time ago), I've decided to take my time and really practice some more before getting into business, so the deal is not off yet. I'm currently breadboarding all the projects to pick out the best.

Looks like a "tweaked" range master to me, the BMTB is almost exactly that !!
seems like "Mr May" would have a case, as he's mentioned so often !
BTW the spelling throughout is very BAD !!

I guess they just keep buying it.  ::) Never forget those buyers aren't electricians.

Umm... It's WAY more obvious than the electronics. I'd never buy a product with such an ad, even if they were selling the whole Brian May gear for a dollar.

It's not the greatest shot but it looks like a May modded rangemaster. They're just using the name 'May Queen'. They might not even know about ROG.

Ok, now you're scaring me. You're the second one to say it's a May Queen. Where the heck does it say that? The description just mentions Brian and the band. The pedal is called Brian May Treble Booster Pro 2. I can't find the word combination "May Queen" anywhere!!!

I wouldn't get all worked up about it.  It may be a copy of this or that but the guy is a total moron.  I'd be more concerned about the poor schmo that bought it.  The seller used to use the keyword "Cornish" in his auctions, and one time I emailed him to ask if his pedal was a clone of the TB-83.  He sent me a long, rambling, 1 page email (one PRINTED page, not one screen!) in ALL CAPITALS with hardly any punctuation (he might have used a period three times in the whole thing).  The email went on and on about how his pedal was amazing and would change my life but only mentioned treble boosters once.  Sure thing man.

Its auctions like this (and the price it sold for :o) that make me think I could be a builder, maybe not a booteeker but I could be a bilker.
As for the caps and lack of punctuation I think its a smokescreen. If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t.
Still from the blurry pics it looks like it is well built enough, and if he actually stands by his warranty then thats a plus, as long as you didn't have to correspond by email, yeech.

PS Jim, the forum that the link to the bay is in mentions the May Queen and ROG saying it looks like one. Who can tell with those pics though?
Shoot straight you bastards. Don't make a mess of it. -Last words of Breaker Morant

Oh, there are posts below those google ads. My bad.

Personally  find the description in this add from the sams seller a lot scrarier. All of a sudden the stuff is compared to the Pete Cornish builds :icon_eek:
More stuff, less fear, less  hassle and less censoring? How 'bout it??. To discuss what YOU want to discuss instead of what others decide for you. It's possible...

But not at diystompboxes.com...... regrettably

Not once on the ebay item does the guy mention "May Queen" or "Runoffgroove".

Someone on another board pointed out the similarities between the circuits.  I think that's where that came from.

I don't see how anyone can come to any kind of conclusion about what it might or might not be, in all honesty...

I don't like the title of this thread because it's misleading. Just specualtion IMO...
