Hi guys, great forum, you've inspired me.

I've managed to make a very respectable Ge Fuzz which I gig with now using NKT275's this thing sings, I bought an old JH-1? Fuzz (cool UFO case) ripped the guts out and put the new improved Ge circuit in.  It's a little temperamental with temp changes, but seems to warm up at the gigs.  Works very well with my Tele and '63 Fender Vibroverb RI, especially at gig volumes. :D

I unsucessfully made a Ross Comp, couldn't get it to work    so ended up buying one of analog mike's comprossers.  I had to change the input and output caps to let a bit more treble through though. (Mike was helpful as always). :)

So my next project is going to be a Foxx ToneMachine 8) , from all the rave reviews I've heard on this site.  I've got all the bits and am going to make a PCB this time from GGG, which should make it all a bit easier for me rather than working with vero.   Iwas going to do an Tycho Octavia but the TM sounds more like my thing.

I'll let you know how I go.

PS Thanks for all the info you guys you have provided which has helped me, hopefully I'll be able to contribute some new ideas in the near future.

Cheers

Sounds great!

The FTM is worthy!  I wired a footswitch for the octave.  I use it without octave more than with octave.  Both ways sound great to me.

The Foxx Tone Machine is extremely cool!!  Probably the widest sweeping single knob tone control circuit out there on a fuzz.  When handling 1N34A diodes, be sure to use care when bending the leads.  The ones I used were construted in a tiny hollow glass tube and would break in half if I bent them too quickly.  Also, test them before putting tham in the circuit.  I've gotten a few over the years that were duds right out of the bag.

It's not the easiest circuit out there to build (going through the schematic with a pencil and multimeter checking all connections for proper continuity and making check marks at all known good connections on the schematic has been an invaluable procedure for me before powering up)-tedious, maybe, but you will be rewarded for your efforts with a great fuzz and an octave sound that will work on a good deal of your fretboard.  Check out King Crimson's "Red" album-John Wetton uses a FTM with his bass throughout.  Happy Fuzzing! :D

Thanks guys,

I'll be sure to let you know how I go.  If I get the time I'll try a build this weekend.

I think it'll fit into my sound:
Tele ('87 G&L ASAT)--> Ge Fuzz-->RMC-1-->EH Small Stone-->Env filt-->'63 Fender VVRI

I play in band that does Psych/garage/60-70's rock ala. Stooges, MC5, Sonics...

I was originally thinking of the TB Octavia, but this one seems like it'll be much cooler.

I'm hoping the FTM will give me that bit extra I need,  :D

I ended up settling with BC549's and Ge AA118 diodes.

This sounds great, very nice fuzz, and in a band situation playing rhythm with octave off, then switching it in for leads this really cuts through the mix.  Just lifts it through everything a bit.

A VERY SONIC sounding pedal, reminds of 60's psych fuzz, works well with my '63 Vibroverb, L6S.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Cheers

I used 1n34 diodes for the phase splitting and 1n4001 for the clippers - this made it a lot less fizzy.

Yeah, I like the Foxx Tone Machine. Nice unit! I like the Tycobrahe too though  8)
