Am I a bad person for modding this pedal? I put a push-pull pot on the drive control and now I can switch between the regular diodes and LED's. It rips! So, even if I'm horrible for changing this sacred boutique box, I'm quickly getting over it.

BTW. I also (sort of) did the same thing to my SD-1. A 3 position DPDT on/off/on for a diode/comp-cut/LED configuration. Really cool.

I didn't start playing the guitar to get rich and famous, so far it's workin' out just fine.

You're special.  What's your point?

Cool man, good to hear it worked out well for you.  What year fulldrive do you have?

I don't have one. I just felt like sharing.

My FD2 is a 2002.

Try MOSFETS or JFETS; they kick ass

My homebuild clone has 12 different ways of clipping.......
Am learning something new every day here

I don't have any pics but here is how I did it.

1.) The clipping circuit has to come out. If you look inside you'll notice that it is covered in epoxy. You may be able to chip it away and save the components (I wasn't so lucky).

2.) I changed the Drive pot out for a push-pull. You use any of them to switch the diodes as long as the pot is the same value. In the "down" position(bottom 2 lugs) I used 2 LED's and in the "up" (top 2 lugs) I used a 1N4005 and a 1N914. I also put the 100pf cap that I destroyed back on the PCB.

3.) Remove the wires for the "comp-cut" push-pull from the PCB(you won't need these points on the PCB anymore) and from the switch. Wire the middle lugs of the Drive push-pull switch to the middle lugs of the Comp-cut push-pull. On the comp-cut push pull, run 2 wires to 2 of the 4 points on the PCB where the original clipping diodes were. Be sure to wire them so that the new clipping diodes will be in the feedback loop(I put mine right beside the 100pf cap). Don't solder anything to the "up" position lugs on the Comp-cut push-pull. This way it will remove all of the diodes from the clipping circuit.

That's it. I'm sorry if I'm not really clear. I'm not nearly as accomplished as most of the guys on here. You have all been great to put up with a bunch of dumb questions from me. Thanks for the forum guys!

BTW. I would love to know how to do the MOSFET and JFET clipping that Bernardduur had mentioned.
