possible damage to effects in the chain?

Hi

This is perhaps a stupid question but... is it possible to damage an effect by having other effects turned on before it?

Like if forexample i had three tubescreamers turned on at the same time, and all of them turned to max gain and drive?

What im thinking is... the last of the three tube screamers must be hit by quite a strong signal, much stronger than just a guitar hitting the input (which is what it is originally designed for i presume).

Im not asking about this in any special regard to tube screamers... thats just an example.

But is this a scenario you have to be aware of, or is it completely safe (from a electronics viewpoint), or can it potentially be harmfull to effects at the end of the chain?

I can't imagine (and have never seen) any damage from this kind of thing, at least with stompboxes.

I typed about this before, and got the answer 'no', they cant' be damaged.
I would suppose there's more current and so maybe eventually...
Or if the input voltage exceeded...X amount...which would be well beyond, by a good margin, anything as far as usable tone/low noise.
For general abuse I'm agreeing with 'no'.
