Ibanez Ts-7, is it good?

Hi!

I'm thinking of buying my first pedal (yes, the very first). It's used and only 400EEK or a bit over 30$.
Is it the tubescreamer? Should I buy it?

It certainly sounds like a Tubescreamer, and comes complete with a JRC4558 opamp.  For $30, you can't go wrong.

HOWEVER, it makes a lousy modding platform.  There are multiple PCBs with push-on connectors, meaning taking it apart/putting it back is a pain.  The PCB is also low quality so you have to be extremely careful when unsoldering components, the traces break off very easily with too much heat.  About the only good thing is that there's tons of room on the main PCB, so you can use oversize components and bend them around to make them fit.

They are not bad, quite a solid/heavy pedal and it has the "Hot gain" switch on it which is fun !
You can also do all the "808" type mods to it quite easily .... however .....

For 30 dollars you could just about build a nice clone, with true bypass switching etc
and have it sounding the way you want it to

I realy like mine unmodded.  It's very transparent, really lets the tone of the guitar through.

I took mine apart and was shocked to see how small the circuit was, yet the board was huge!

Welcome, fellow estonian. So now there's three of us here.

About the pedal, beware of the switch, under that huge foot platform, there is a tiny-tiny switch mounted on a PCB, and on my TS7 the switch is starting to give up.

Yes, it looks like they're using the same board for all the ToneLok series effects.
And yea, they sure have made the innards complex for such a simple circuit.
