Hi ,

I'm positive some of you guys have built the neovibe.
So, are all parts availible for the project?
How close is it to the uni?
         Any known problems or issues?

I would love to make this one my next project.  I'm totally in a Pink Floyd phase.
I want to learn the churn.

The parts are almost all easy to find. The hard parts to get are the LDRs (light dependent resistors) and the low voltage/low current incandescent bulb that illuminates them, and a reverse-log potentiometer to do the speed control. I have built a couple of units from LDRs and light bulbs found at .... Radio Shack... I don't know if Radio Shack still has them or not though. I believe that Small Bear Electronics may have the reverse log pots.

More recent builders will be more help on those.

Other than that, it's plain-vanilla stuff - 1/4W resistors, ordinary caps, and NPN transistors. The transistors can be 2N3904s, 2N4401, 2N5088, etc.

The circuit is ...exactly... that of the Univibe, with only two exceptions. I replaced the half-wave rectification of the original with full wave rectification for better filtering, and I replaced the resistor-capacitor dropping network that supplied the signal parts of the circuit with a garden-variety 7815 voltage regulator for reliable performance.

It's as close to the 'vibe as it can get - it *is* the univibe circuit.

That being said, the real univibes varied. The secret seems to have been matching the 100K's that mixed phased and dry signals.

I'm also looking to build the NeoVibe.
I found this bulb at Mouser: T-1 12V .06A
The LDR's I'm going to get from Small Bear.

One question I have: What is the minimum current rating for the power transformer?
I'm still trying to decide whether to use a wall wart: Xicon Wall Plug-In AC Adaptor AC/AC 15V/400MA
or an internal transformer like this one: Hammond 229A16 16V CT@350/8V@700

Is 350mA enough current?

R.G.

350ma is plenty. I think it might run as low as 100ma. But I haven't actually measured.

Thanks Stu and R.G.

Heck yes I'm going to build the neovibe.  Especially when those Fulltone vibe pedals cost $$$ and have lack luster reviews.
Thanks guys for the parts info.  I think I will make mine a rack unit.  I hate big boxes on my pedal board.  And i am not going to put another damn wall wart on the floor either.  I will def use the transformer Stuart.  Anyone know a good place to buy and single rack chasis?
