  If you build it you get to 
  Look at your board before anythings on it 
  Choose what wires, switches etc. and what components go in 
  Solder all your own stuff [for better and for worse] 
  Figure out any mistakes 
  *Choose mods   
  Use *Sockets 
  See everything, and figure out your layout [FBAFW Also]
  Choose your case, including possible  treadle case
  All the fun stuff like drilling and planning the 3d layout to fit everything in
  Hope it works, and maybe pull some hair out debugging it.
  Learn some things about effects
  Probably do some other stuff we're not thinking about right now
  If you buy it you get instant gratification, but none of the aforementioned stuff.
