Really? Has s/he tried humming or whistling instead? Or maybe a Swanee Whistle?

I've been wanting to make one of these for a long time...but where the heck do you get a 709 op amp?  Apparently you really do need the old round one.  Is there a drop-in replacement that works?

Tim Escobedo

Has anyone here built one of these? The Krakadoos has been lingering on the SDIY list for a while, but frankly, the samples are underwhelming. The same effect could be had from a single Schmitt trigger oscillator. I figure those touch spots should be doing something more exciting.

nordine

i second that,
the trinegistor (moosapotamus.com) is way "funnier"

Coriolis

I tried building one - found an LM709 in a 14-pin DIP (think it was 14) and found a datasheet as well, but I could never get the damn thing to work. Wrong pinout maybe?
And Tim, could you elaborate on "doing the same thing with a single schitt-trigger"? How would I do that?

I made some interesting schitt trigger sounds myself just this morning.  :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

Note the square wave oscillator at the bottom of the page. Replace the resistor with two conductive "touch points". Two brass screws, one wired to the input, the other to the output. Bridging the two "touch points" with moist skin mskes the oscillator oscillate. You may have to mess with the capacitor value, as skin resistance can vary quite a bit-sweaty skin conducts much better than dry, cracked skin.

It would be hard to actually play a melody with such a gizmo. But Krakadoos type noisemaker isn't really about coherent melodies.

For dry cracked skin Procter and Gamble recommends baby oil! :)
I can't stop laughing  :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol: at schitt-trigger. Sorry if it may seem inpolite, nothing to do with Coriolis, no offence.

Dammit! For once, I'm funny, and I'm not here to enjoy the attention!   :icon_lol:
Makes you wonder if there's more fun to be had in this hobby...how about "poop-filters" for microphones...? :icon_rolleyes:

But thanks for the link Tim, I certainly wouldn't be interested in playing little melodies, much more interested in "bringing the noise"... :icon_lol:

"Laugh and learn" as they say...or...
