Saw these in the latest Jameco Catalog.

"Slim Line" Wall Warts. PDF shows 8 plugged into a standard power strip.

The big problem is that they are wired backwards (polarity) as to what most effects boxes take.  I bought one but have yet to replace the plug so it will work with my stomps.

some people report strange buzzing from switching power supplies.

For a slimline wall adapter that puts out 9Vdc and is designed - and tested, with field experience in the many thousands - take a look at the Visual Sound 1Spot.

The 1Spot was designed and released before my time there. It's just a good product, with lots of field experience behind it. It's a bit more than those adapters in general, but it has the right plug already, as well as cords for daisy chaining effects with it.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Uhm... that's an endorsement.

An alternative (not AFAIK available in Australia) are 1 foot long power extension cords.. if only they had them here (no, I'm not rolling my own power cords).

I just bought a switching PSU from a hardware store, it's kind of a
"one spot" clone !  cost about 1/3 as much and looks/weighs the
same but is silver plastic.
Works at 110 & 240 volts, "Hum free" and can supply 3v/5v/6v/7.5v/9/12v (DC)
with Ma ratings increasing as the voltage drops, at 9v for instance its rated at
1000Ma and at 3v, the rating is 1400Ma  !!
Comes with a bunch of "adapters" for different "barrel" sizes.
This technology, I think comes from supplies needed to run portable keyboards
CD players and digital cam-corders, just as the One Spot.
I got this in the UK from a hardware store called "Robert Dyas" its a small
chain of stores .
Cost £10.99
One Spot costs £35

The only wart I ever had catch fire from a line surge was a switchmode (had plenty of normal warts plugged in at the time as well). Still I bet in a couple of years, there will only be switchmodes. And our mains waveform will look even squarer.

take a look at the Visual Sound 1Spot.
I've been looking at it, reversed the polarity of it, added daisy chain to it, and admiring that it takes 'one spot on the power strip, also is 'low noise', but I'm leaning more towards typeing 'no noise', relatively inexpensive [I got mine for 20 at GC]...best power supply buy I've ever made.
