Ultimate "Fuzz Face" ??

Equipment to me is like the "location, location, location" statement you hear in Real Estate. That's why you've only seen me just lately talk about germanium anything. I would have never tried building germanium type effects until I got my little tube amp, because I feel that tubes are essential to bring out the germanium sound. I have also found out, that it works backwards too. There are effects that I have tried with the little tube amp, that I built to be used through my solid state amp before, that I don't like nearly as well through the tube amp. The MXR Blue Box and Shocktave Harmonizer both go ballistic through the tube amp, and won't track worth a nickel. The Tychobrtahe Octavia sounds like two totally different effects through a tube or solid state amp. Through the tube amp, I'm getting closer to the Tobias Karlson sample. I believe now, it's just basically learning to play like that. Through the solid state, it sounded like Iomi's grinding, growling "Bloody Sabbath" sound. So, I've determined it's "equipment, equipment, equipment" when it comes to bringing the best out of an effect.

That's 100% correct Jeff, some stuff works SS others better with valves
I've found a few builds that make my JMP-1 "freak out"  unidrive is one if them !
even at low gain, it just causes "hiss" which doesn't happen on valve or SS amps ?
must be impedance miss/match going on ! 
perhaps I need to take a look at the JMP-1 schematic ....
