Axis face low volume

Sorry to bombard the board with so many questions lately, the archives didn't have anything on this. I've breadboarded a silicon axis face, from fuzz central. It is the firt fuzz face/variant I've ever heard in real life, other than the fuzz factory which is different, so I don't know if it's sounds as it should, but it sounds pretty good. The only thing is that the volume is very low. I've searched but couldn't come up with anything I hadn't already checked. I've checked the reistor values. My adobe programs aren't working so to check the pinout of the transistor I stuck them in the dmm on the hfe mode. Only one configuration for each gave a result, so I guess that's solved. The bias voltage is ok. The diode I used was 1n4007 not 1n4002 how critical is that?

Regarding the sound, it sounds like a nice distortion with a little bit of "ugly". It's nice, but what I am looking for in a fuzz I now realize is real crudeness, like the stooges sounds on their self-titled, and the sound on the Robby Krieger from the Doors' solos. My next build is a silicon tonebender. If that doesn't cut it then I'll go for the ones with a "bad" reputation - beebaa, fuzzrite, univox superfuzz, I'll have to choose. Maybe an octaver as well.

when you say "bad" do you mean bad "bad" as in good? Or do you mean "bad" as in cruddy?Do you want that "bee fart" bad distortion or do you mean to be searching for that dampfartshitstream that ruins a nice pair of chinos Homes?If the latter is the shat 'er, sound you're seeking, I'm currently perfecting a little known device I call, Bowel Blossom with Rectal Nectar. One-Adam-12 please be advised! I'll keep you posted+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It shouldn't be quiet ! the 1k2 resistor helps here, any 1N400* diode for power
protection wil be fine.
What transistors have you used and did you use the 10k trim pot ?
Should be a good thick sounding fuzz, for a more "nasty" sound, the
ones you've mentioned will be good choises, also FY-2 ( Shin-ei ) is a good
octave fuzz.
"Garage fuzz" will get you that nasty broken speaker sound, or Tim's "Lofo-Mofo"

The transistor I used are 2n2369A for Q1 and BD139 for Q2, like in the schematic. I used the 10k trimpot. Here's the wierd thing. I posted this thread last night, today, I plugged the circuit back into the amp and there was hardly any sound at all, last night it was too quiet but there, now it was barely audible. The amp works fine on itself though. I tried the fuzz in a different amp, it works, low volume like last night, back to the first amp, barely audible... what the hell?

Sorry to quote "RG" here but, "mother nature is telling you something is wrong" !
( I learned a lot from accepting this statement )
There has to be an error in your build, the volume change between amps just
says "impedance" to me ( different at both amp inputs )
So, tripple check all connections/values and pot wire up !

Cheers,
Marty.

Hmmm. I would start be double checking the .01uf and .047uf. Maybe swap out if you have extras.

Uhh, does a cap that says 100 and 10nK mean 0.01 PICOFARAD, not micro?

100 = 100 volt operating level ( up to ! )
10nk = 0.01uf or 10n or ( 10,000 pf )
A 1n cap or 0.001uf equals 1000 pf

What about 5k resistors that have a black body, not tan? I don't know guys I give up... I'm taking it apart and putting it back together. I can't solder it yet as I'm still waiting for the switch to come in the mail.

What do you mean?  Is it breadboarded?
