Ok im rather new to this whole thing so please bear with me.  So anyways im building the bazz fuss (found here http://www.home-wrecker.com/bazz.html) and it will not work with the transistor in it.  I've built everything like it shows in the schematic however im using a 3pdt, a different transistor and have socketed the transistor the diode and the in cap.  When i take the transistor out i get a distorted sound but not very fuzzy and when the transistor is in the socket there is no sound. I've tried various transistors including 2 5088s and a 4401.  Is the socket the problem maybe? Any help is aprecciated.

Im new to this to but did you try to switch the transistor around. The first board i did didnt work. I had put the transistor in backwards. Fliped it around a it worked.

make sure you use an NPN transistor as well as making sure it's pointing "the right way" .  the transistor should point like this (top view)

Colector=
Base=       (|   <---- = transistor
Emiter=

"It's Better to live a lie, and forget the past, then to Forget a lie, and live the past"

Also, on the diodes:  you need to make sure the current is pointing the right way:

--[| ]--  = current is pointing  <----

--[ |]--  = current is pointing   ---->
"It's Better to live a lie, and forget the past, then to Forget a lie, and live the past"

Alright, after jaming the transisitor in the socket im getting a sound, however it is relatively quie andt not very fuzzy and tends to go out while im playing (i think thats called gating?).  After looking things over i think the resistor value might be wrong.  A 100k should be gold then yellow, black, and brown.  But the last one looks purplish or redish in bright light....is that what brown looks like on a resistor?  Could the problems im having be traced to that?  Thx again.
