pardon the achingly dull question, i know it's been asked a thousand times, but what can anyone recommend for a distortion/od pedal, that holds the tone and bass for guitar.
this is to be a christmas present for a pal, and he's notoriously anal about tone.
nothing for shredding, and something with the capability for a bit more aggression than a blues driver. never heard a fuzz face (!) and was idly thinking that might do the job.
ideas gratefully received

Hi there.

"Anal" about tone? Guess you don't speak English as your mother language right?  :icon_mrgreen: you mean analytic?
Fuzz face is not transparent/guitar truthful, it's ... well ... fuzz! You can say it sounds better on strat/single coil, but that's all.

What I think is your thing is a BSIABII. From light brown blues-tubes to heavy 70ties hard rock.
Go to www.generalguitargadets.com. There are a lot of sound clips.

Actually, that is common idiomatic use of the word "anal", as in "anal retentive" or obsessive about his tone.  :icon_wink:

To answer the original question, do a search for "bass paralooper" and (little self-promotion here) find my thread entitled "Bazz Fuss inna Pickle". Also search for "modifying effects for bass" and similar wordings, because many effects can be modified in various ways to sound good on bass.

Oookaaaay... ::) guess I'm the noob then... what a language...

He said "holds tone and bass  - for guitar"
instead of "holds tone - for bass and guitar"
I don't think a bass effect is needed here, but a guitar effect that holds bass.

Ahhh, I misread that part, so I guess he isn't looking for bass-specific pedals then. Still, the discussions of how people modify pedals for better bass response is applicable to bottom-friendly guitar pedals as well.
