9v regulator

I got into 9V-regulators when I started building those 4ms/commonsound-pedals. I never had any problems with regulators following their instructions. Read them here:

It's in the box on the right, if You want to have the battery option still. I wouldn't take the advice below the picture ("Note:..."), though. Instead I always use a 12V supply.

In your diagram you show that the supply is 12V DC, in which case you're not going to need a huge cap (if you were rectifying an AC signal then you'd want a large value smoothing cap). 

Use the values indicated in the data sheet.  These things often aren't critical...
