Basic AC Circuits by John Clayton Rawlins, Newnes Publishing.

I recently picked up a copy and it's one of the few text books I can wholeheartedly recommend.  For those who know a little AC theory already it can be annoyingly repetitive at times, but that's the beauty of it if you're a newcomer to this area of electronics - you're taken slowly through each chapter with tons of examples and diagrams and at no point should you feel lost.  If you've mastered the basics of DC and know how to bias a transistor etc, then the next step forward is understanding AC and this book is an excellent place to start.

My library recently sold off its entire electronics section bar a few crappy beginners books and some lucky sod got most (I got my mitts on a few gems) of the good stuff, so I bought this book for reference (the library book I normally use having been sold off).  Not cheap, but worth it.

thanks very much for this recommendation.  i really appreciate your thoughtfulness.  even though i have learned a lot already, i will get a copy.  internet learning tends to be haphazard, full of holes, and (unfortunately) some misinformation.  so it'll be good to have a solid foundation.
