i've been playing around w/this chip the past few days. anybody else out there know about this one? its been out of production for some time now, but i have a bunch from "back in the day". got some ok IM distortion things out of it, but nothing to write home about.
thanks

I don´t know that chip but I get some samples from TI of a four cuadrant analog multiplier I breadboard a octave up with it .
analog multipliers have two problems : poor dinamic , you need a strong signal. and high voltage supply at least +-20V.
in teory a octave up based on analog multiplier should be completly clean .
finally I get a intermitent octave up, I can´t get a consistent sound.
provably this summer (south emisphere) I will try again .now I have a osciloscope to see how it work.

It should work OK, but note that it is only going to be 'clean' on a single note, if you put a chord thru any multiplier (same signal in on X and Y inputs) you get intermodulation hell. And as 12afael says, I think it is expecting more than +- 4.5 volts!! a pair of 9v batteries at least.

i raised the supply voltage from +/- 9V to +/- 15VDC. raised gain of input stage to about 50. now it really does some wild, almost ring mod things. still playing with it. thanks for the supply voltage tip.
