Space Drum Type effect??

Ok guys,
My lovely girlfriend has recently bought me an old Boss DR-110 programmable drum machine from 1983. It's mint and I LOVE IT! (even tho it's not the DR-55 I really want )
Anyway, the point of that ramble is that as well as outputting an audio signal, the DR-110 can also output a 10ms 5v pulse using the accent control (Which the DR-55 can do independantly of the accent).
I figure this can be used in place of the oscillator in something like the Vanishing point sequencer, however, what I really want is to use this pulse to trigger a seperate sound, such as a huge crash or something. Now, short of getting a DR-Pad or Space drum, is there any way to homebrew a device which will trigger a burst of sound everytime it senses a 5V pulse??

Any ideas guys??
