"weird" thing to put behind a fuzz pedal

OK, here's the deal:

I want to put something "wacky", "crazy" etc. behind my new build (and most adored) fOXX tone machine. Any thoughts? I would prefer it to have one control (as I have one hole left in my enclosure).

Hints: synth, crazy, wacky, large......

I already tried a Crazy Sync and it has some issues (sweep controlled by LDR); anything else?

You could try the thing mod from Tim Escobedos site http://www.geocities.com/tpe123/folkurban/fuzz/snippets.html

I've stuck one after my uglyface with interesting results. Nice fat synth sounds or total sonic mayhem depending on where you set the frequency knob :)

Yes! I heartily recommend the ThingMod! It has a lot of interesting tones available for such a small build and is easily modified to shift the pitches up or down. Only problem is bleedthroug of the 'carrier' when you're not playing, so maybe you could install a switching pot to take it out when you're not using it.
In my head, i'm hearing sonic chaos when you combine the thing with an octave fuzz!  :icon_mrgreen:

joe davisons Shocktave is cool after fuzz... synthy octave down with a cleen blend and a fuzz just makes it sustain and sound sick!!! but you need a fuzz with good low end or it wont track as well...
shocktave is really cool and kinda weird!!!

disto

putting some "modulation type" pedals before a distortion often produces an interesting sound.

try something like an auto wah or filter of some kind. You could set up a prototype effect before your fuzz with more than one variable such as an auto wah with freq ranges depth etc set up a sound you like and then use preset pots when you mount it in your final pedal.

try playing around with some pedals you already have then you might be able to get an idea of what effect you want to create.

My Scrambler goes crazy when it's being driven by my BSIAB. Good crazy that is.

A great combo for sick fuzz.

I wonder what a FTM would do to it.

It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.
Maybe I can afford one, if I do a little less drinking. - Fred Eaglesmith

Thanks all.

- I tried to build the Thing, but I cannot get the IC; will search a bit further. I have the non-CMOS version already wired up; how does the CMOS version compared? With the non-CMOS version I get a quite good fuzz with a huge ring-mod that completely destroys my sustain...... I don't like that. Does the CMOS version also does that?

- I tried the Shocktave, but does not like the result.... I already use a octaver behind mine

- Tried some mod stuff in front of it..... all is too "nice"

- And yes, I boost the input with the preceding units, but it does not do a lot for the tone of the fOXX

Right now I like the Crash Sync the most (whole unit behind the fOXX, frequency controlled by LDR and foot)

Maybe try to shoe-horn this thing into a 1590B:

I'll bet you could get some crazy stuff with that and the FTM.

Done that too......

Not the thing I needed

i remember getting some really weird sonic meltdown by running my silicon fuzz face at full gain into an analog chorus... you know how some fuzzes (5k gain pot) occilate and whistle, and you can sort of controll the pitch with your tone knob? crank the gain and twist the tone and volume knob of your guitar to try to get squeeling... then  plug it into a ANALOG chorus or flanger or slap delay etc... bucket brigade chip pedal... a squeeling fuzz will do W E I R D things into some pedals...
anyway the sound was like NOTE......and as the note started to fade.....WHeeEEoooOOOwoWOOOOWWWW up and down in frequency but every time it swept up or down an echo would follow the sweep, then another then another so what you got is a note then all these pitches sliding way up  into tune with the original note --------_/_/_/_/!@#$%hiss!@#@squeel
hard to explain but a fun experiment if you have a high gain silicon fuzz... not dure if germanium does this...it may just be the higher gain fuzzez tho.... the chorus was a rocktek... fyi
