univibe w/out LFO... modular madness

Hullo!

I've been looking at the 4ms pedals (tremulus lune, phaseur fleur) and was wondering if anybody had used their LFOs in other pedals.

I was thinking that you could replace the sweep position resistors in most phasers with LDRs and control them with any LFO, sequencer, S&H, or EF that has a variable voltage/current to drive a LED. The idea starts to move into the modular territory where all you have to build is the filters and then can control them with a big box that has multiple outputs for each of the control mediums..

Probably more of a studio effect thing, but it would be very cool to have a big huge "control box" and set all different speeds (perhaps multiple LFOs), and then just plug them into your filters, or volume pedals(tremolo)...

It makes FX a bit easier to build, and more generic I guess.. Find a nice LFO or other control source you like, and you can hook it up to all the phaser/flanger/trem etc. pedals you can get your hands on. Less parts in each box, and makes trying a new filter circuit easier, even if it is just to select something to box it up with. The idea also goes a long way to remove clock noise/ticking from builds (i think).

Anyway - the real point of this post is to ask advice on how to build a univibe type pedal without the LFO in the box. I was thinking of doing a neovibe without the lamp driver/LFO circuit, but was wondering if there is a way to get the same sound with a different setup (not 10 transistors)... Maybe Hollis' Easyvibe? Ive built a P45 but because of the FET nature I couldnt stop it distorting with humbuckers.

I think it'd be fun to try this pedal with a sequencer, so thats another advantage of the idea  :icon_razz:

I've always been a fan of that sort of idea. I'm definitely going to go modular when I have a bit more experience with me. I'd love to have my separate filter modules and lfo modules and such. Should be good.
I think if you can build the filtering section, you can easily remove the LFO and replace it with an LED circuit to drive the LDR (if that's how it's working, anyway) and add a jack to give it voltage. Don't know too much about it though.
