SIL connectors. I wish I knew about them 5 years ago.

Hi.
I've been messing with stompboxes for a while now, and always used those silver or gold pins for connecting pots, power, etc.  Then, a while back I got hold of some screw terminals.  They were good, but were kinda large and had a pin spacing of 0.2".

But now I've discovered SIL connectors.  0.1" pin spacing, very small footprint, 2A current handling.  Woohoo!!  And ExpressPCB has them as a standard item, and they're readily available here in Oz.  (DSE parts P2733 and P2731).

I think they're so good.  But maybe there's a hitch.  Any major faults with them?

You might be onto something there Brett.  :icon_lol:
I used them a couple of years ago but haven't thought of using them on stompboxes.
Anyone see a problem using them?
BTW Jaycar has them as well and has a bigger range of them in 2,3,4,6,8,10 pins, straight and right angle inputs.
Jaycar Tech info : voltage~250v, current~2.5A max, contact resistance~20MOhms

What about crimping tools for these? can quality ones be had relatively cheaply? I ask because the ones in the Mouser catalog are all upwards of $150. I'm sure there must be cheaper alternatives. I'd love to do something like this, as long as I can get good crimps without having to take out a mortgage.

I usually crimp these type of connectors http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/43be347d047bb4202740c0a87f9c0715/Product/View/P2733 with needle nose pliers and solder them just to be sure!
