does anybody have a layout (preferably vero, but anything is welcome) for johans la-light compressor ?
i don´t mean the fat´n´pretty version by moosapotamus, but just the basic version. i´d like to use it for bass, gonna order some vtl5c2 to build it.
any help appreciated,

Hey Lowstar, I was looking for that too, saw in a thread that someone here called Jaicen_solo had made one, but couldn't find it and got no response to my request. But I guess it's not too complicated to do on vero, so I think I'm gonna try that instead, I might learn something about doing my own layouts in the process!  :icon_cool:

Hey man, I didn't receive any requests as far as i'm aware!
I have the layouts right here just waiting to be built when I find some time. I added a mos-boost on the input by the way, to ensure that it works with a variety of different guitars (ie hums & single coils). You could leave that out I guess.
Anyway, mail me your address & i'll mail it straight over.

EDIT: I just remembered the designer of the LA-Light (Johan) has been using his comp on vocals with excellent results. I'll see if I can find a link to the song.

Hey Jaicen, sorry about that!
Check you PM.  :)

I would recommend breadboarding it first and make sure you like the sound. Remember, it is a vocal compressor and not everybody will like the sound on a bass.

Coriolis

Yeah, I plan to use it with a micpre, so it's perfect for me...

Well like I said, the results on vocals were excellent in my opinion! I think it might be that there's not a whole lot in the signal path (ie, two op-amps, that's it!). That said, I think because the design is so simple, it could be possible to tweak it to taste fairly easily by increasing/decreasing the gain in the sidechain or the LDR/LED combo used. Filtering could also be added to the sidechain to alter it's response. Overall, a very versatile comp if you ask me!
