Tube Reamer w/joe's diode-compression opamp?

would it be worth it to sub the 741 in the all mighty reamer with joe's d-c opamp?  i need to make a reamer for a buddy, and i may try the homemade opamp, and if it works better, i'd keep that one and give my buddy the original.
