Hi
As a fellow aussie, I feel patrotically obligated to build this compressor.

Its fairly simple but Im fairly new to this...so I have three easy questions about the schematic

Where is Pin 4 going? Its a line with 2 dots and an arrow. Is this the same as VCC?..ie. the "red + line " in my simpletons language.

And Pins 6 & 7...where do they go?

Thanks for this cool simple idea... :)

My guess would be that it goes to ground, but I'm not sure why there's 2 dots?
If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.

Sorry, my last post was a bit imcomplete. I believe pin 4 goes to ground judging by the datasheet. Pin 6 goes to the 9v positive. Pin 7, I believe, doesn't go any where. Hope this helps somewhat.

it's ground. the layout just added a couple of 'joints' in there.

so they all go to ground? (Pins 4, 6 & 7)

Im getting a very hot IC when Im running this right now - no sound...just a lot of heat....

:)

Pin 4 goes to ground
Pin 6 goes to 9 volts
Pin 7 shouldn't be attached to anything

I'd have a look at the datasheet to make sure you've got the pin out right.

Now maybe it's me, but i'm having trouble working out how exactly how this circuit is supposed to work.
It looks to me like a variable proportion of the input signal is fed back from the output of the 386 to the gate of the MOSFET.
This in turn produces a variable resistance to ground for the input signal. Is that right?? Seems to me that it's quite similar to the UREI 1176 FET comps.

hey
thanks for the tips...I had it wired up correctly...but still no sound
Just a REALLY hot IC (when battery is plugged) and when testing with a multimeter I get 0 volts at pin 5 which doesnt seem right

hmmm....
