I'm nearly done with my TS808 Clone but I wasn't sure about a couple things...

Firstly, i'm not putting an AC adapter jack on there, does that mean I just wire the 9v straight to the board? If so, where do I wire the LED Indicator +?
Secondly, I was wondering what would happen if I replaced the 2n3904 transistors with maybe some 2n5089's. Exactly how much gain would it gain (tee-hee) if I modded it like that?

Thanks again guys,
M

You should wire the neg. battery lead to the ring terminal of a stereo input jack, then to the board. Then the effect will only be on when it is plugged in for use. Otherwise it will be on all the time.

Attach it to the postive battery lead.

Looks like you have what you need!

The transistor stages are just buffers they don't provide any gain. Replacing the trannies with low noise ones might make a difference otherwise the transistor type doesn't really matter.

So the chip provides all the gain? Ah, then the way to increase the gain would be to get a different chip. Neat stuff i'm learning...  :icon_biggrin:

Not just the chip, but the diodes, the gain pot and resistors in the feedback loop of the first half of the chip provide the gain.  If you were to put a low fixed resistor in place of the pot, you'd get low gain.  Higher resistors give it more gain.  That's why a pot is there, so it's variable.  Try using red 3mm LED's for the diodes, try Ge diodes, try 1N4001 diodes, try a combo of Si and Ge diodes or a match of any of the others.  Instead of 2, use 4, or put 2 more before the tone section to ground (hard clipping).  Lots of options.

Read the "Technology of the Tubescreamer" page on GEOFEX.COM.  Specifically the "Clipping Stage" section, but I suggest starting from the beginning.  It spells it all out right there.
