I have an Ernie Ball 6166 Mono Volume Pedal that has, for some reason or another, stopped working.  When connected, the signal goes directly through the pedal, unaffected by altering the pitch of the pedal.  All the inner parts are still connected, and the pot control moves as it always has, but it just isn't doing its job.

Any thoughts on what this could be?  Will replacing the pot solve the problem?  Is there any way to avoid spending $25 plus shipping for a freaking potentiometer?  Is effective replacement of the pot (getting it to work as it did before, making sure heel and toe positions are the true extremes of the pot range) as difficult as I fear?

Thanks in advance.

The pot is a circular resistor with a little copper finger called a 'wiper' that the shaft moves across the resistor.
It sounds to me that the wiper has given up on you. It may be broken off or it may have lost it's springy-ness that keeps it pressing against the resistor.

You most likely could use a new one...
