resistors that say RoHS whats the difference? which ones are better? thanks

Sir H C

IIRC the RoHS has to do with the materials inside being greener for the planet.  PCBs that are lead free for instance.  Think this is a European requirement now for a lot of electronics.

The implications for electronics builders of lead-free parts is the growth/formation of "tin wiskers".

I think RoHS means "Regulation of Hazardous Substances" or similar. The new EU law comes into effect in June or July 2006 I think. I'm not sure exactly what the implications will be, but I suppose it will be illegal to sell non RoHS compliant stuff in the EU after that. Some DIY guitar components may not be available at all, so it may be wise to build a stock. Don't know exatly what items that will be affected though...

It's a big change for any company that has existing product. And change sucks because it costs money. It's a more expensive process at this point as well. Soldering temperatures are higher, risk of delamination is higher, etc.

Should we be stocking up on Lead/Tin solder now?

New EU environemental protection laws are no surprise for those companies, so, don´t feel pitty for them, they had enough time to change their productions.
New componentes can be a bit expensive but very soon prices will fall.
I´m not an environmental freak but i agree that we can not continue to pollute our planet like we are used to. Environemental laws are welcome and we cannot say that they will stop the economy, that´s bulls*** !! I´m a company owner and my wife´s too, so, i know what i´m talking about ...
