Does anyone else do this?

I'm taking apart my old, haven't used in 13 years "GK 250RL" amp head. Tons of Resistors, op amps, trim pots and transistors. I guess when u start on this path, u always need something.  lol

I noticed someone selling the TL604cp switching IC for $18 each, this things got 5 of them.

I know this must sound dumb as dirt, but I was just wondering.

I started doing the same thing recently (pulling things apart!) and came across an old mixer that had sixteen JRC4558DD chips in it. I am not sure if these are the JRC chips used in Tube Screamers but I tried one in a ROG Mockman I breadboarded and it sounds great.

I am currently pulling apart a flatscreen computer monitor and an old VCR.

If you salvage parts worth 18 bucks a piece, it's worth the effort.
For a couple of bucks worth of caps/ic's it's probobly not !!
I did it recently with an old mixing desk, all ic's were socketted :D
A lot of the pots however, have "issues" so I've given up on them
even though there were about 200 of 'em !

I opened up our old baby monitor to find a JRC386 in there.  I think I'll make a ruby out of it.  I don't do it for any other reason than I love pulling stuff apart and tinkering.  If I can scavange some good parts in the process, cool.

i'll second that  ;D

i opened up an old phone here in my apartment in a search for a cap for an audio probe (i'm a newbie) and found the diodes i needed to fix an old ds-1 and about half of the caps to do the mod i've been thinking of, and 2 dpdt switches too!  never know what you're gonna find!

I've salvaged quite a few caps and resistors of odd values out of a circuit board from my furnace, and from a computer power supply...but it becomes addictive -- now whenever I see a circuit board, I can't bring myself to throw it out...I just see all these parts that maybe someday I'll need...
