I just built the maestro envelope filter S/H pedal and love it! I used the layout at GGG http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=76&Itemid=105

...are both excellent, compact, very flexible, and pretty cheap to make.  The MXR Envelope Filter project at Tonepad ( http://www.tonepad.com/projects.asp?projectType=fx ) is also an excellent build as is the Dr. Quack and Nurse Quacky (both modded clones of the E-H Doctor Q).

yu may want to look at my HIPWAH,
it's a 2 mode (auto, touch) filter pedal .

In "auto" mode the filter sweeps at adjusted rate.
amplitude and range is ajustable.

"touch" mode, sweep depend how hard you hit the note.

Good choice.  Has tons of easy mod possibilities.  Don't know why EHX never milked them.
