i just finished building the plate reverb as detailed by the tape op site. had some help with the welding, and plumbed it in this afternoon. heaven. just unadulterated bliss. reverb from the lap of the gods. now who can shrink that design down from 9 feet long, to pedal size?
oh yeah, and someone gave me what they though was a dead spring reverb. some custom job from the 70s. i touched up a few dry joints, changed some plugs over, and it's sweet as a nut. i've suddenly got 2 pristine units for about 50quid all told.
please excuse the hubris, i'm on a cloud 9 of analogue ambience.

I remember that article, definately something I'd want to do - if I had the space for it, or the tools for it, or the time or money... :icon_rolleyes:
Sounds like you got a great setup there! BTW: placing the transducers on the plate - is it difficult to find the sweet spots? Or not too critical?

as yet i've only gaffered the pick ups on............i'll epoxy them in a day or 2, and i'll try a few different positions then. i don't think the placement is going to be really critical though, just the tensioning of the plate. now the euphoria has come down to accetable levels i'm starting to hear the wrinkles in the sound i need to tune out. just a little too boomy in the low end, which can be corrected with some judicious tightening.
actually the hardest part was finding the drivers. the 'coneless speaker' the article refers to seems to have vanished from the face of the earth, but i found some sound impact stick on pads, which look a little rough and ready, but actually can really pump the sound out. they came from some american site called geek toys or something like that.
