Put this together in about 2 hours tonight. Managed to squeeze it down to about 1"x 2".  I had some problems with my last ROG build being a bit over-sized so I tried to keep this one skinny.

Worked the first time! Has a sizable amount of gain and a great scratchy fuzz. I had to really turn it down to get it usable on my test amp. Am looking forward to making an enclosure for this. Too bad I lack any artistic sense (or any other kind of sense for that matter). Rust-o-leum and paint pens will have to do.

Parts cost: about 15-20$ (includes a 1590BB).

Besides - its just fun to say "whisker biscuit".

Cool.I was wondering if you could make it intoa  deluxe whisker biscuit, IE base it on the deluxe bazz fuss.

ethrbunny

What would you change? Im not familiar enough with the BF to know what makes it 'deluxe'.

The three differences between the BF and DBF are:

- transformer at input so it behaves better
- input cap blend
- dirt control

The transformer isn't necessary since we've got the BMP input stage ahead of the BF stage.

There's already a tone control in the Whisker Biscuit, so that's also covered.

That brings us to the distortion control.  We developed the Whisker Biscuit without a Gain/Distortion control, since it cleans up relatively well with the guitar volume.  However, the DBF Dirt control may add some more flexibility and it is very easy to add into an existing WB.

What about the whister biscuit, witht he dirt pot, made for bass?  I see you are running smaller caps on input and output.  Would the the input/output caps need to change?  And/or the caps between the stages?  Any suggestions to what values?

The other difference is there is a "thickness" control on the DBF.  Looks like htat controls how much of the 22.uF input cap to use.  Would something like that between the stages work to fine tune the sound?

Hey Mr B Tremblay, where did the term "Whisker Biscuit" come from? very interesting, i'm intrigued.... 8)

I've been wanting to eventually make this circuit, because I loved the sustain on the sound samples, and the fact that it was smooth and muff like. I wonder if it's just your build that has the "scratchy" fuzz? I have several very nasty fuzzes of all types and descriptions, so I was kind of hoping that this one would have more of a smooth "face" type sound like the sample had to go along with that nice sustain. If it really doesn't have a smooth bassy tone to it naturally, can it be modded easily to be like that?

A "Wisker Biscuit" or a "Big Muff Pi" is something that is ok to eat in bed.

Not only is it ok to eat in bed, but if you sneak away in the middle of the night to get some, you don't have to worry about your signifcant other finding crumbs in the bed because this type of pie (usually!) doesn't contain crust.  :icon_lol:
I love the smell of solder in the morning.

Crust would NOT be a good thing.
