Just a weird questions about the Crash Sync

Can I use the "sync" part of the crash sync with other fuzzes? I want to add some "weirdness" to my fOXX tone machine

What is the Sync part btw? Is it the circuit right of the 10K resistor (the one next to the opamp) as seen here?

yeah the all the stuff to the right of the 10k is the noise generating part. The opamps are just to provide a loud enough signal to drive the 555 chip.

OK, help me out! Just simply putting it in a fOXX clone does not work.

What did I do:
- I first made the original Crash Sync (to be sure); works great! I used two breadboards; one is left from the 10k resistor, one is right from it (here's the schematic).
- Then I took the stuff right from the resistor and placed it between C13 and R25 (here) to use the same volume control.

Any thoughts?

I tried plugin the 555 of an ugly face into an overdrive, and into a rat, just like you at the volume control (they have a high output level), and i never got sound.
So that's just to say i'm following this thread and hoping for solutions.  :)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's because the opamps before the 10k you mentioned make a square wave...I thinking this because the first bit is more or less the same as the front end of the blue box...I got the idea once of splicing the sunc with the BB but never got around to it (so many ideas/builds to do!!! :icon_evil:  :icon_cry: )

OK, I tried some other stuff;

- With the fOXX pedal intact, I can't get ANY signal
- With the C13 removed from the fOXX I get a signal of the 555 wich frequency can be changed by the pot
- When I add the 1/2 opamp just before the 10K resistor some signal comes through but it does not detect pick attatck that well and I can hear some sweep, but it is little. Also the effect is nill, just a great wash of noise
- When I add the whole crash sync after the fOXX pick attack is good but again, the effect is very little. I can hear a sweep, but the effect is lost in the wall of noise.
- OK, when I turn down the gain of the fOXX it works (to almost nill)

Hmmmmm, someone has suggestions for a similar circuit that can be used for this kind of noise making?

That's an update to what i said earlier for the record.
Hooking up a turbo rat and an ibanez overdrive to the 555 of the uglyface WORKS (at the 2.2uF cap)!
But it works only if the output volume of the pedals is fairly high, and by taking out the 386 chip.
Even with the drive of the ibanez set very low, the output sound is just totally distorted, it's just not possible to use the 555 + opto arrangement to sweep frequencies on a "clean" sound. Well that's probably not a discovery for those who understand how it works just by looking at the schemo, but anyway...  :icon_lol:
Each pedal will yield different flavors out of the 555, but the effect really works well with more gain, and high output.

Bernardduur

Yes, I tried that also, but the high gain scared me away....

Now I just use the whole pedal put behind my fOXX; at low gain of the fOXX the unit reacts normal, when I raise the gain the unit will begin to scream.....
