Any advantages to using enclosed 1/4" jacks?

Probably a stupid question, but is there any reason to chose the enclosed jacks over the open ones? Thanks

I like them because they are insulated from stray wiring (if you have that) however, I have noticed on some hammond enclosures they prevent the back from fitting on well unless you get them positioned real low in the case. In those instances the open ones take up less room.

Closer spacing is why they were originally introduced.
