Vanishing point problem

OK, here's my problem;

I build a vanishing point; I used a philips HEF4017BP for the 4017 and a MC14093BCP for the 4093. I wired up a couple of LED's to the 4017's outputs to test my creation.

It does not work. When I turn on the power, the first LED (0) stays on burning, the rest does not come on. When I apply some pressure to the chip it sometimes work, when I touch the backside of the board it works........ when I release it stops working and the first LED (0) stays on.

I checked a lot; I use an IC socket and measured resistance for each leg....... nothing yet.

Any ideas?

Hi,

i just had the same problem, when the reset-pin of my CD4022 was connected to nothing. I just put a 1k Resistor from pin 15 (reset) to ground to get a well-defined state and it works. It should be the same pin on the CD4017, perhaps this helps.

(sry for my german-english ;D)

There is a post that has some updates, including addressing your issue, I have not included on the site yet in this thread:
