Hi... a question about modding Crybaby 535q...

Hi...
I ordered a red fasel from aron here, and I installed it but I don't get much of a wah sound...
The wah sounds really weak... the tone changes a little bit, but you can't hear a "wah" effect... (it sounds like a mix of volume pedal and treble changer(?))
Can you guys help me with this? The inductor should not be a problem because it is brand new...

I have just done the same thing. (Red Fasel into my 535Q) The first time I put it in = no sound. I then removed it and re-installed it. Now it's fantastic !!!

All I can say is keep messing with it. If you didn't damage it when removing the original inductor (mine was a freakin bitch to get out !!!) it should work fine. Follow the traces on the top of the board and make sure you attached the fasel to the two "live" terminals. On mine it was the two far left terminals.

I'm changing the transistors next. (there are three of them )

In mine I've installed an ArielFX HALO inductor, and boy is it SWEET!

It has an awsome "vibe" to it, even next to my 67' original HALO equipped VOX !!!

i thought the 535q came already equipped with the red fasel? a friend of mine has it and it says so on the box..
maybe it's on he newer versions only

Mine was an older version, and it came with a metal can inductor.... I guess the newer versions may come with it...

Thanks for the reply... but I think I might have a different problem... I get sound, but the "WAOW" effect is not very pronounced... it's more like a tone changer(?), not a wah pedal... can't get the jimi hendrix voodoo chile sound, or slash's wah sound in Sweet Child of Mine...
Do you know what might be the problem?

this is just a shot in the dark...

did you take out the pot when you took the pcb out to change the inductor?  if so when you put it back in you may have accidentally turned it a tiny bit, which could result in the pot not turning to its full "on" capacity (if that makes sense?)... there is a little play in the pots that will let you get a bit more treble or bass (for lack of better terms) out of the pedal if you adjust the pot and the shaft.  maybe that is why you can hear the sound, but aren't getting the full wah sound that you are looking for?  not sure if this helps, sorry if it's way off base

the name 535Q comes cuz it uses a 535 indutor instead of the 500 which might not be much but you gotta tweak the Q control to get a better wah quality

I got the same type of thing from my Morley Bad Horsie when I was modding it.  I didn't replace the inductor, but in the process, I touched it.  I had put it back together and got the exact same effect you were talking about.  Come to find out, one of the fine wires on the winding got disturbed and broke a bit where it contacted the circuit board.  So while it looked connected, it was only the insulated part of the wire that was touching the pin that went into the PCB.  Double check the windings and make sure they're actually connected.  You will be able to measure some continuity (less than 400-600 ohms) across the circuit board pads on either side if it's actually connected.

hi! i've got the 'old' 535q with the metal can inductor.. how do i remove the metal can inductor and replace it with the HALO inductor (any instructions or pics)?
