transistor socket mounting

how do you mount the 3 pin triangular transistor sockets so that they fit in the straight line layout of most pcbs?

I don't ........although if you etch your own PCB's you might could extend the middle pad using MS Paint.

I use the Mill-Max sockets that come in rows of 20.  Then just cut three (in a row) off of the 20.  These are available from mouser, small bear and probably radio shack.

How do you cut those things? I've tried and the plastic just shatters.

I've had good luck scoring them on both sides with a razor, then just snapping a piece off with my fingers. Without scoring first, sometimes they break into the pin area.

I use a dremel tool and a cut off wheel . . .     invaluable.

No different than soldering the transistor directly to the board and having the leads exposed. Similar to individual "Molex" terminals. Don't let them touch each other or anything else.

I use a set of nailclippers, they are also handy for cutting leads etc,
