vox treble booster schematic

i found this schematic online http://www.montagar.com/~patj/voxtreb.gif  and i was wondering if the 2n2924 transistor could be subbed out for a 2n3904? would i have to make any changes to adjust the collector voltage or wouldn't it matter.  Also has anyone tried the distortion modification? i was thinking of putting in a switch to select between the two caps but if it doesn't sound good (or at least better than a ds-1) then i shouldn't bother. thanks for any help

Any NPN silicon transistor should work.  I would try 2N3904 or 2N2222.

This was my first build.  I used a socket so I could try different trannys.  2n3904, 5088,5089 all work well.
