Why not simply wear one of those miner's lights on your head?...

You could also put some canaries in cages around the stage, and your band could do a cover of "Working in a Coal Mine" by Devo.


Actually I sort of had this problem with my midi control pedals because I always seemed to be setting them up towards the back of the stage, and it was had to see at a glance, which one was which.  Especially after looking forward into stage lights.  (Black pedal on a black board towards the back of a black stage.)  So I simple installed a little green led at each pedal.
