Dr. Boogey Build Report and a few problems

Just finished (almost) the Dr. Boogey. First project where I etched my own board. I made it a bit too large and drilled holes that were too big but got it working. Because of the oversize board I had to use a larger case, but that gave me more room to do nice wiring. Full build report at: http://beavisaudio.com/Projects/BATG/

The circuit sounds really good, lots of gain on tap. I can see why it is highly recommended.

Two problems: the bass and mid controls have no effect on the circuit. I've double and triple checked my wiring--can anyone share some pointers on what to look for?

Thanks!

Just gotta comment how great your name is.  "Big ass throbbing grinder,"...brilliant man.

Yeah,
I like that enclosure. Maybe a bit smaller would be nice also.
Great wiring BTW.

I'd be willing to bet that since you changed the order of your pots (most people would) on your layout compared to the default layout, you may have switched up a wire (or possibly mixed up pot values).  Your layout is so damn neat that it should not take long to track down the problem if it is as simple as a wirng mistake.

I like the enclosure as well.  It would be great for a big board like a vibe or a dual circuit with two or more foot switches.

funny thing you should mention the mid and bass pots... on my recent rebuild of the little dr, i was reminded that their effect on the tone was very much underwhelming. i was curious about this, but not so much as to ask why...

Nice lookin' build man !!
I'm sure there is just a simple "wire-up" mistake.
I made my Dr Boogey a "three knobber" by just using a tweaked BM tone stack
Works very well IMHO

On my build, I've noticed that the treble control goes from pretty much ZERO to boost; i.e. it doesn't cut the treble. The mid control cuts/boosts treble also. The bass is a little subtle too. I'll check back over my wiring at the board and confirm.
It's still a kickass unit, it's just more trebley than before.
As far as noise goes, it's not that bad at all; no hissing/whining, but mine is in a pedal chain with a few other units.

Thanks for the ideas and compliments. I'll revisit the tone stack/pot wiring tonight just to see if the problem is on my end.

Must be because those controls work for me...  :icon_wink:
