I have an old Ibanez rack mount multieffects unit that I am pilaging parts from.

It has about half a' dozen JRC4558DD's in it. Can I Use an old JRC-4558DD instead of a CA3080 for Flatline?
Are these two IC's interchangable for my application. This is my first build. http://aronnelson.com/gallery/bcreekmur/flatline_compressor

I am also building an OD-1 http://aronnelson.com/gallery/Martys-layouts-and-photos/OD_1update Are these chips good for that build? So far I must have something wrong on the OD-1. The sound tends to fade in with distortion and fade out again. it seems ok for about 1/2 a second. before and after that it blats like crazy . (...is that the right word, blats? am I gettin' the lingo or what!?
Any thoughts?

the 4558 will not work in the place of a CA3080
at least not properly...
4558 is a dual op-amp, and will work for almost any
distortion etc. that you find..................
in most cases it will work in the place of
tl072/082/062, lm833, etc........

check and double check your leads and joints,
read "what to do when it doesn't work", at the top of
this forum...........good luck

Thanks Chunks!  I might have what I need in this old Ibanez effects unit I am using parts from. If the 4558DD wont work on my compressor build what should I look for? It may be right there in my Ibanez.

the only sub I know for sure is nte996, but I'm pretty sure you will not find one of those in production electronics.
check out smallbearelec.com, he may have them.  otherwise, find a shop that can order nte replacement IC's
I do know that CA3080 is a transconductance op-amp, which i belive is for current gain?
so it is a whole other beast....................

MartyMart

CA3080 is available from either www.smallbearelec.com  (USA)  or  www.banzaieffects.com (EU)

The 4558 or any other dual op-amp will work fine in the OD-1

If you're pulling parts from an old Ibanez, be careful that you are not overheating the
parts .... it's very easy to ruin an opamp that way !!
I would try and use "known good/new" whenever possible, or your just asking for
a headache  ... trying to work out if a part is good or not .... not a fun addition to
your de-bugging process !!

look again, the flatline doesn't use a 3080. it uses a regular old dual-opamp, the 4558's you have should work fine for that one. ;)

MartyMart

Yup correct :D but a TL072 Jfet input opamp is recommended here ....
