i grabbed a pile of stuff from the lab, leftovers from projects. just off hand, what looks useful in effects?

pn2907
2N2222 (in the metal can type housing)

1458's, LM311N's, and some 4046 phase-locked loop/VCO chips

PenPen

The 2N2222's can be used for negisistors, such as in the Tri-negisistor, GarageFuzzz, and my Pungent Bzzz. Or they can  be decent medium gain bipolars, too. I'm not familiar with the others, so I won't comment on them.

Can a VCO like the 4046 be used to do vibrato?

or

is there a true vibrato circuit (magnetone/vb-2 real vibrato not tremolo sound) done without IC chips and with transistors and whatnot.?

Paul Perry (Frostwave)

You can make a voltage controlled oscillator with a 4046, but it's hard to get a decent waveform.

aziltz

so its not something that could be applied to a guitar signal. damn.

byoc cloned the vb-2, but i'm interested to see if someone has a non-chip version.

You can use the 1458 in place of 4558s. They're supposed to be dual op amp versions of lm741.

My reissue DOD 250 had a 4558 and I stuck a 1458 in it. It sounds better to my ears but who knows.
