what is the best way to go about doing this while still being able to return it to original signal flow somehow? (if the result is not desireable)
specifically, I am modding a pedal thats input is sent to the effect circuit's input via the PCB. I need to break this to send it to the new DPDT switch for true-bypass.

Just cut a small section out of the the trace with a razor/exacto. Just enough so there is no connection. If you want to put it back to the original trace then you can solder across this cut connection and your back to the original. No harm done.

Or you can desolder the jack(s) from the PCB, bend the signal pin and solder the rest back in. Now solder wires on the jack pin and into the hole where it used to be. No harm to the PCB (just make sure you don't burn those pads off the board).
