the lm321 si the single version of the lm358? right?

They are very similar, but not the same. The LM321 can handle a capacitative load better, if I read the application notes correctly.

i just had a startalling revelation... i have almost 400 lm358's, and either way they will take up the same amount of space, so why not just go with what i have on the breadboard.  sometimes i feel like the worlds dumbest genius.
