ROG UglyFace-No Diode?

Either I'm overlooking it or there's a good reason fo rit. Why is the 1N4001 diode not present on the ROG UglyFace? It's called for on Tim's page to connect the 22 uf capacitor to +9v.

I think the diode is just for reverse polarity protection. I built my uglyface without it and it worked fine.
