this is not really a stompbox question but i want to build a good DI. I found a schematic of a passive DI by Proco but i was kind of searching for an active version (battery or phantom power).

so are there any great, wonderfull, extraordinary or just good schematics out there? (and can you point them out for me cos i can't find em right now, passive schematics are good too so i can see some different schematics)

tnx

Jensen Transformers have a lot of DI schematics on their sites, both active and passive. All includes their transformers of course, but you could replace them with cheaper alternatives if you want.

R.G Keen has two guitar splitter/AB boxes for guitars on his site. One with transformers and one with only opamps (search for "splitter" on the main page).

I recently build this one. http://sound.westhost.com/project35.htm
I build it without the power option, so it's only phantom powered. It seems to work well, and also have the "speaker" option. I haven't tried that yet though. I build it on vero and will try to refine the layout and upload if anyone's interested.

For the best sound USE the Jensen transformer. Very low phase shift, and they can take A LOT of signal without breaking up. Active bass / acoustic guitar and keyboards are no problem. I build mic splitters with Jensens JT-MB-CPC and DPC but have tried everything to get the cost of a 40 channel three-way snake under ten grand. In the end I keep coming back to Jensens. I'll keep looking for a Chinese transformer that can match a Jensen but I haven't found it yet. Lundales (sp??) come close but are just as expensive. Did a DI shootout and the one with the Jensen was everyones first pick in a double blind test. (No, I don't work for Jensen, just my opinion and you said you wanted the best).
It's time to buy a gun. That's what I've been thinking.
