Hey, I'd like to share this silly plan with all you experienced people, see what you think of it:

I'm going to build a TS808 with a buildyourownclone PCB, and I'd like to install some switchable stuff in it:
- a DPDT switch to switch between stock (two 1N914 diodes) / asymmetrical (one 1N914, two 1N4001 diodes) clipping
- a DPDT switch to switch between keeley bass and drive / stock bass and drive (the  0.047uF to a 0.1uF and the 4.7k to a 2.4k, and the 51K to a 20k, if you know what I mean)

Good Idea? I'm curious what you all think of it...  ;) Chiel
I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or His Dudeness or Duder or El Duderino if you're not into that whole brevity thing.

I did the first thing and for short testing time I didn't feel much difference (I switched 3rd 1N914 diode to make asymethrical clipping). My friend who tested it on better amp (old fender super reverb) said that there was slight difference. Maybe with different diodes there will be more variations.
For second one I think you'll need 3PDT switch, but it's not necessary to switch resistors, with keley mod you get more gain range...it wouldn't make much difference to make it siwtchable to narrow range (stock). Just make keeley gain mod and you can nail down any gain with it. However you can switch 47nF cap, that might be interesting.

yup ... do the Gain mod as you can get the lower gain settings anyways but you may wanna consider doing what I did to get a variable bass control in my MOD pedal ( based on a stripped down TS )

You will most probably end up using one setting anyway,
I did this kind mod and i am stinking to LED + 4148 on my ts clone. ;)

Also, i just moded my Boss DS-1 with 2x4004+Ger , sound real good,
i dont think i want to add an switch , no use for that.  ???

I have a switch that takes the 4.7k to a 1k and I like that.  You get more of a Joe Walsh sound.  But if you reduce the resistor and increase the capacitor, you wind up right back where you were at before.  I wound up just sticking with the 0.047uF and changing resistor values.  The clipping diode switch was subtle there, but noticeable.  I went with sym/asym 1N914 diodes.  I have a footswitch that switches the 51k to a 1M pot so I can stack that on the regular drive pot for a gain boost.  That same footswitch also lights an LED and puts in a 1M pot between AC ground and the "bottom" of the volume pot for a volume boost.  It makes a two-channel tubescreamer, pretty handy.  I'm chasing a bad pop in the second one I built, though.  Switching something in the gain loop may be it, I dunno.

One more thing, making mods increases wire length inside enclosure and possiblility of hum. I know TS isn't hi gain, but why making more reasons for it. As others said you'll end up using only one mod, so maybe it's better to test all mods and then fix only one you like. My two other TS builds are with keeley mods and no extra switches.
