Hey,

I ordered parts this week for my Mosfet Booster.  I noticed that i accidentally ordered a Silver Mica 47 uf cap rather than an electrolytic cap.

This is my first real project, so forgive my newbie-ness, but can i still use the Silver Mica cap - i assume it is non-polarized.  Is this ok or should i just order and electrolytic cap while i'm waiting for the rest of the parts to come in...

they make silver mica caps that large??? as 47uF is a lot! are you sure you did't get 47pF silver mica cap or anything like that?
I don't think I've ever seen any of more than a couple of dozen of nanofarads and those would allready be pretty large

You are right - i did order a 47 pf - whoch was correct for another part of the board - however, i ordered the wrong electrolytic - 0.47 uf rather than 47 uf - is there any substitute that i can pick up at radioshack rather than order a single cap and pay shipping?

Probably. Unless the latest wave of MBAs has made it to your Radio Shack.

The supply used to be pretty good, but it's been declining steadily for years. I don't know if you'll find one.

But ask the sales droid to point you to the electronic parts drawers, look in electrolytic capacitors, and get anything that's 47uF or over and 16V or over.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Yeah,
Most "Cell-Shacks" still carry a 47uF electro.....
Probably one!
To most of those kind sales associates from RS, a Resistor is someone like me.....
someone who DOESN'T want a cell phone :icon_lol:

Found one! (the only one!)

I must have had some kind of brain fart the other night.  I need to go back through the order confirmation lists and make sure i didn't screw anything else up.
