kinda OT...transformer Q

Ok so my friend and I are going to put together a p1 from AX84, and we're in the process of collecting parts.  With regards to the transformers (Hammond 270dx and 125ESE)...are there any viable alternatives to these that are a little cheaper?

Sure they're cheaper but do they sound as good as Hammonds?
Do PT contribute to tone? 

Is it worth it when a P1 costs less than $250.00 to build.

Perhaps go the other way with a high end PT and tube recifier.

If you want cheap just buy a Epi Valve Junior head.
