Quick Umble Capacitor Question

Hello All,

I'm new to the forum, which I think is awesome, and I have a quick question on the Umble build. The perfboard layout shows 14 capacitors and the PCB layout and parts list shows 15 (C5 = 47p looks like it's between the 1M Vol and the 150k Treble). Is that left out of the Perfboard layout 'cause experienced builders would automatically know to connect a 47p between the 2 Pots? I know I'm missing something here...
Hope it's not a dumb question but I've searched the Forum and FAQ's for 2 days and can't seem come up with an answer.

BTW: I'm brand new at this but I managed to throw together the beginners project and learned a great deal.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Welcome to the forum, Brian. 8)

There are multiple layouts for many circuits out there so if you can include a link to the PCB or layout in question it will get you answers much faster and from a much wider group of builders.

That 47pF cap allows a little treble to bypass the volume control which helps to keep the sparkle in the tone when the volume is turned down. Very commonly these "treble bypass caps" are mounted right on the pot so it's not surprising it's missing from a perfboard layout.

It's a very good question. Everyone here really appreciates when someone tries to find their own answer first, but if you've looked and can't find, please don't hesitate to ask.

May all your builds fire up first time and welcome to the family.  :icon_biggrin:

Hello Peter,
Thanks for the quick responce...

"Very commonly these "treble bypass caps" are mounted right on the pot so it's not surprising it's missing from a perfboard layout."

That explains everything...
I'll be sure to post a link next time. The link below that you posted has the schematic and layout I was referring to.
